Office of Diversity Affairs

The Office of Diversity Affairs reflects Allegheny's commitment to the understanding, appreciation and celebration of diversity. The staff works with the College community to provide programs and services that promote the educational, cultural and social growth of all students. Diversity Affairs supports the general educational goals of the campus and actively participates in the rich educational experience that Allegheny College offers its students. The office also serves to enhance the community effort to understand the increasingly complex issues surrounding diversity in the coming century.

Statement of Purpose

As part of its mission, the office advises student organizations that supplement the campus's efforts to educate its students about diversity issues. Diversity Affairs serves as the key advisor to organizations for students of color and supports the efforts of all College organizations with an interest in diversity. Further goals of the office are:

• to aid in the recruitment and retention of students, particularly those from diverse backgrounds
• to encourage interaction and participation in campus-wide activities as well as meaningful dialogue about the effects that diversity issues have on the College community
• to plan and implement programs that educate the campus community about issues related to diversity
• to serve as a resource to the campus community in efforts to respond to the expanding meaning of diversity within the student population
• to serve as a resource for faculty members attempting to understand, explore, address and support the incorporation of diversity in the classroom and other areas of the educational process

Location & Hours

The Office of Diversity Affairs is open to all and is conveniently located in suite 308 on the third floor of the Henderson Campus Center. The office is open Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 5:00pm.
